How to Call in Sick

Some 83 percent of American workers have hauled themselves into work when they were sick, according to a poll by ComPsych Corporation, the largest provider of employee assistance programs.

With cold season approaching, experts say next time you’re laid low by a major symptom, be up front with your boss and take time off. It may also be a comfort to know that the bad old days when sick days were severely frowned upon are, for the most part, history. Workplaces have become more accommodating, experts say, and there’s a growing awareness that coming in sick puts other workers at risk.
