HR Managers See Morale as Biggest Workforce Challenge

CHICAGO – July 26, 2010 – Some 31 percent of HR managers say morale and employee productivity is their biggest concern over the next six months, according to a survey released today by ComPsych Corporation. ComPsych is the world’s largest provider of employee assistance programs and worldwide leader in GuidanceResources (EAP, behavioral health, wellness, work-life and crisis intervention services).

“The morale and productivity issue has far surpassed concerns over health care legislation and organizational change,” said Dr. Richard A. Chaifetz, Chairman and CEO of ComPsych. “Many managers are attuned to workplace discontent, which is becoming more widespread as organizations continue to operate with lean staffs.

“Managers must take steps to ensure employees receive recognition and that workloads and other issues related to morale, such as opportunities for growth and development, are addressed,” he added.

HR managers were asked:  What do you expect to be your biggest challenge in the next six months?

31 percent said – Maintaining employee productivity and morale

26 percent said – Dealing with health care costs and new legislation

16 percent said – Finding qualified candidates

14 percent said – Handling organizational change

13 percent said – Retaining top performers
